Lie #6: Itula is not an opponent
Documentary series on the lies of Job Amupanda
In November 2019 Job was telling people that Dr Itula presents an “opportunity for change” and called on voters to back the IPC in the November 2020 elections.
He would later turn around a few months later to say he knew Itula had a ‘weak political immune system,’ even before the election in which he backed Itula.
Ogone Tlhage in July 2020 reported that Amupanda, was still on side with Itula, for he said “We supported Itula because he was an independent candidate… Itula is not an immediate opponent… “We want to be true to the fact that we want land. The question that we must pose is: How do we meet our people at the point of need?”
One of the top promises of the IPC and its backers was for N$1000 urban plots for each adult Namibian. This was at the time Job was campaigning for Itula. Where are these N$1000 plots, we may ask, five years on? Was it just another lie to win votes?
No more BFFs
Barely two months later on 18 September 2020 Eliaser Ndeyanale and Sakeus Iikela reported that Job had parted ways with Dr Itula. They quoted him saying ‘the very idea of supporting IPC in the regional and local authority elections was “petty”.
From there things deteriorated quickly because by November 2021, Kalahari Reporters cited him saying potentially damaging things, such as:
When Dr. Itula was in London with the Queen, we were already in the struggle.
Itula would just want to instruct me… I had to block his number at one point.
Maybe that is why he is obsessed with me. His breakfast is Job Amupanda, his lunch is Job Amupanda and his dinner is also Job Amupanda.
Not everybody is a problem in the IPC. Itula has a particular problem with Job.
Itula had a weak political immune system before the 2019 general elections.
Among other things he claimed:
The underlying machinery for Itula (during the 2019 elections) was ours.
Nowhere else has Itula restrained councillors except in the City of Windhoek.
Itula said a white guy in Swakopmund would run Windhoek without a salary.
IPC councillors are traumatized. They cannot take independent decisions.
Itula’s destructive conduct is problematic.
In his mind, he is the councillor and president of the coalition.
This attitude of Dr. Itula who thinks that he is popular is very sad, it is build on rumour mongering…. he started gossiping me together with Pau. We are concerned about Dr’s Itula unbecoming behaviour. (as reported)
Now whether, the allegations he makes happen to be true is a discussion for another occasion, but the point here is that Job said — as seen above in late 2019 — that he supports Itula. Yet he calls a press conference to attack and vilify the man in their absence before the press. What kind of support is that?
He claimed in July that Itula is “not an immediate opponent”, but in November calls a conference to insult the man. Therefore, the statement that he supported Itula’s leadership is suspect, because he says he considered him weak even before the election, and besides, nobody has ever called a press conference to attack a friend.
We must conclude from his own words and actions that he was lying when he said Itula is not an immediate opponent.
